Living Well Funding

Programs such as independent living centers or fitness centers which are interested in offering the Living Well program, but are constratined by tight budgets, can look to external funding sources to help defray costs. From our experience conducting the Living Well program in research and demonstration programs, we believe there are two primary mechanisms for funding. First, Living Well fits the funding priorities of many local and regional foundations. Foundations may be willing to fund development of health promotion services in your local geographic area. Second, when Living Well is provided by credentialed providers (e.g. licensed counselors) the program may be a reimbursable service for a variety of third party payers including Medicaid, Medicare, and Vocational Rehabilitation. We can provide technical assistance to access these funding mechanims.

Reimbursable Services

Many Living Well activities can be provided within a reimbursable model if credentialed leaders are utilized. For instance, Living Well materials can be taught by a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and billed as a group therapy. Certain treatments for chronic pain and rehabilitation can also be implemented within the context of Living Well by Physical Therpists. Particularly in rural areas where managed care has not impacted delivery of services, reimbursable models are a great way to develop the capacity of small communities.

The Living Well program has expanded to include a reimbursable model of service delivery in Missoula, Montana. A team of licensed professionals provide workshop materials, physical therapy services, and a site for accessible exercise equipment and related classes. (See New Directions)

If you would like assistance developing a reimbursable model within your own community, we can provide teleconference technical assistance at $75 per hour.
